'I'm Flying on a Plane': Young Boy With Autism Sings for Southwest Passengers

A boy with autism entertained his family and other passengers with his “plane song” on board a Southwest Airlines flight from Nashville to Chicago on October 5.Mom Amy Caswell Hardin told Storyful that eight-year-old JW Hardin was diagnosed with autism around four years ago. She said he was “pretty non-verbal” at that time, but has “come a long way in the last four years!”Caswell Hardin said that JW composed his song to celebrate the family’s flight to Chicago for a fall trip. When the flight attendants heard that he’d created the song, they kindly invited the boy to sing his song on the intercom. This video shows JW being introduced by a kind flight attendant, before he smoothly greets passengers and performs his ditty.Caswell Hardin said JW “hasn’t stopped smiling since that happened.” She added she’s “so grateful to Southwest Airlines for being welcoming and inclusive to ALL their patrons.” Credit: Amy Caswell Hardin via Storyful
